Thoughtful restoration of a 1920s kitchen, preserving original architectural details while updating functionality. The built-in breakfast nook was restored, and original cabinet doors were refinished and painted to match the home's character.
The kitchen had original 1920s built-in cabinets with layers of old lead paint, damaged plaster walls, and a beautiful but neglected breakfast nook. The client wanted to preserve the historic charm while making it safe and functional for their young family.
We used EPA-certified lead-safe removal techniques, restored the original cabinet boxes with new soft-close hardware, and hand-painted them in a historically accurate sage green. The plaster walls were repaired with traditional lime-based materials, and we matched the original paint color from an uncovered chip found behind a cabinet.
The kitchen looks like it belongs in a historic home magazine. All lead hazards were eliminated, and the restored breakfast nook is now the family's favorite gathering spot. The work received a local preservation society commendation.
